Big Nutbrown Hare
An affable, big-hearted hare, with a great sense of humour, Big Nutbrown Hare is his son’s best friend, guide, protector and biggest hero. Big Nutbrown Hare is a big kid at heart who loves to explore and play.
Little Nutbrown Hare brings out the child in Big Nutbrown Hare and he loves seeing the world through his son’s eyes. He knows that answers come from experience so will happily lie back and let Little Nutbrown Hare discover for himself… while he stares at the sky and contemplates, well… who knows what? In Big Nutbrown Hare both the child and adult audience will recognize the loving and endlessly patient parent.
Little Field Mouse
Little Field Mouse may be the smallest friend in the meadow but she also has the most courage and biggest appetite for adventure. Because she’s full of energy and imagination, she tends to enter a scene in fun ways, such as parachuting in with a leaf, which always surprises and entertains her friends. She has lots of energy and loves to race from place to place, but when the day is over and the journey is long, she’s happy to hitch a ride on Big Nutbrown Hare’s big strong shoulders.
Little Grey Squirrel
Another of Little Nutbrown Hare’s closest friends, Little Grey Squirrel lives in a tree not far from the Nutbrown Hare’s home. He spends much of his life up a tree but can move around, climb and jump with great agility. He’s fun and versatile with lots of good ideas and schemes. He loves nothing more than to play games with his friends. He has a mischievous side like many children do and loves to play practical jokes. He’s very quick and dexterous, with a collection of tricks from juggling acorns to balancing them on his tail.
Little White Owl
Little White Owl is a White Barn Owl. She is generally asleep in the daytime, but is always out and about at night. When her friends meet up with her of an evening, or early in the morning, Little White Owl is a keen storyteller. Everyone loves to listen to her dramatically performed and ‘prone-to-be-tall’ tales, especially Little Nutbrown Hare, who hangs on every word. When questioned if a story is true, Little White Owl will say with conviction that,“it is true that it is a story.”
Little Redwood Fox
Little Redwood Fox lives in a den not far from the Nutbrown Hare’s home. She often joins in his games but she can be a bit of a challenge for Little Nutbrown Hare. While she’s not a bad character, Little Redwood Fox is tricky and very clever. She loves to outsmart the others, or not play by the rules, and she’s even been known to take their things without asking!
Blue Bird lives in the meadow not far from the Nutbrown Hares. Small in size, she’s a grown-up bird who looks out for the safety of others including her own babies every spring. She has a wry sense of humour and is a bit of a ‘mother-hen’. She is a kind soul who is always ready to help. She’s often seen snuggling her babies in a nest, or pecking at seeds in the grass. She is just like the ‘Blue Bird of Happiness’ - a widely accepted symbol of cheerfulness, happiness, prosperity, good health, new births and the renewal of springtime.
Sliding and wrestling, belly flopping and somersaulting, Otter is a young adult who knows how to have serious fun. He is playful, energetic, full of curiosity and wonder. A water creature, Otter is keen to share the pleasures of his watery paradise with others. He’s a talented underwater acrobat – he loves to spin, dive, climb and slide – but his favourite trick is to surprise his friends on a hot Summer’s day by appearing unexpectedly and splashing them!
